It is situated in the southeastern region of the country, approximately 215 miles (347 kilometers) north of the state capital, Belo Horizonte. Ipatinga has a population of around 263,000 people, making it one of the largest cities in the state. The city is known for its strong industrial sector, particularly in steel production, as it is home to one of Brazil's largest steel mills, Usiminas. Ipatinga also offers a variety of cultural and recreational attractions, including parks, museums, and theaters.
