Cheap flights to Sopu

  • Sopu Airport, officially known as Tenzing-Hillary Airport, is a small airport located in Lukla, Nepal. It is named after the famous mountaineers Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, who were the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
  • Sopu Airport is considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world due to its challenging runway. The airport is situated at an elevation of 2,860 meters (9,383 feet) and has a very short runway, which is only 527 meters (1,729 feet) long with an incline of 12 degrees. The narrow runway is built on the side of a mountain and has a steep cliff on one end, making it a challenging landing and takeoff spot for pilots.
  • The airport primarily serves as the gateway to the Everest region and is a popular starting point for trekkers and mountaineers heading towards Everest Base Camp or other peaks in the area. Due to its remote location and limited facilities, flights to Sopu Airport are highly weather-dependent and subject to frequent cancellations or delays. The small size of the airport means that only small planes, such as Twin Otters and Dornier Do 228s, can operate there.
  • Despite its challenges, Sopu Airport is a key transportation hub for the Everest region, attracting adventure seekers from around the world. The scenic flight to and from Lukla provides stunning views of the Himalayas, making it a memorable and exhilarating experience for travelers.
