It is situated three miles east of downtown Anchorage and is the busiest general aviation airport in the state of Alaska. Merrill Field is owned and operated by the Municipality of Anchorage. It has two asphalt runways and various facilities to support general aviation activities, including fuel services, aircraft rentals, flight instruction, and aircraft maintenance. The airport is named after Russel Merrill, a World War I aviator who helped establish aviation in Alaska.
