Cheap flights to Ataturk

  • Ataturk Airport, also known as Istanbul Ataturk Airport, was the major international airport serving Istanbul, Turkey. It was located in the Yesilkoy neighborhood, on the European side of the city. Ataturk Airport was named after Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder and first President of the Republic of Turkey.
  • The airport was opened in 1924 and became the busiest airport in Turkey. It had three terminals offering both domestic and international flights. Ataturk Airport served as a major hub for Turkish Airlines and was a gateway for travelers visiting Istanbul and other parts of Turkey.
  • In recent years, however, the airport faced capacity constraints due to increasing air traffic. As a result, a new airport, Istanbul Airport, was opened in 2018 to replace Ataturk Airport as the main international airport serving Istanbul. Ataturk Airport ceased all commercial passenger flights in April 2019, but it still continues to serve cargo and general aviation flights.
  • The closure of Ataturk Airport marked the end of an era for aviation in Istanbul, as the new Istanbul Airport aims to become one of the world's largest and busiest airports, capable of handling more passengers and accommodating the growing demands of air travel.
