Tuninter

  • Tuninter was a regional airline based in Tunisia. It operated scheduled domestic and international flights primarily within North Africa. The airline was established in 1991 and operated a fleet of smaller regional aircraft such as the ATR 42 and ATR 72.
  • Tuninter gained international attention in 2005 when one of its flights, Flight 1153, crashed into the Mediterranean Sea shortly after takeoff, resulting in the loss of 16 crew members and 14 passengers. The crash was attributed to fuel exhaustion due to a miscalculation by the crew, which led to the aircraft's engines stopping during flight.
  • Following the crash, Tuninter faced financial difficulties and eventually suspended its operations in 2008. The airline's assets were later acquired by Tunisair, the national airline of Tunisia.
  • Tuninter's brief existence was marked by challenges and tragedy, but it played a role in connecting various destinations within North Africa and supporting regional travel before its unfortunate end.
