Trans Mediterranean Airlines

  • Trans Mediterranean Airlines (TMA) was a Lebanese airline established in 1953. The airline initially operated as a cargo carrier before expanding its services to include passenger flights. TMA operated domestic and international flights, connecting Lebanon with various destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
  • Throughout its history, TMA faced various challenges, including financial difficulties and political instability in Lebanon. Despite these obstacles, the airline managed to continue its operations for several decades.
  • However, the Lebanese Civil War in the 1970s severely affected TMA's operations, leading to a decline in passenger numbers and financial difficulties. The airline temporarily suspended its operations during the war and faced significant losses.
  • Although TMA resumed operations after the war ended, it struggled to regain its pre-war status. The airline faced intense competition from other regional carriers and continued to experience financial difficulties. In 2004, TMA ceased operations and filed for bankruptcy.
  • Today, Trans Mediterranean Airlines is no longer in operation.
