Midway Airlines

  • Midway Airlines was a former airline in the United States that operated from 1979 to 1991. It was headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina and primarily served the eastern and southeastern regions of the country.
  • Midway Airlines began as a regional carrier under the name Chicago Express in 1979, operating flights between Chicago and Champaign, Illinois. In 1989, the airline rebranded as Midway Airlines and expanded its service to other cities such as Atlanta, Charlotte, and Raleigh-Durham.
  • Despite its initial success, Midway Airlines faced financial difficulties in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The airline struggled to compete with larger carriers and increasingly faced competition from low-cost carriers.
  • In August 1991, Midway Airlines filed for bankruptcy and ceased all operations. The airline's assets were sold off, and it was eventually liquidated in 2003.
  • Midway Airlines is remembered for its distinctive red, orange, and blue livery on its aircraft, as well as its focus on customer service. It had a loyal customer base and was known for its friendly flight attendants and high-quality in-flight meals.
  • Although Midway Airlines is no longer in operation, its legacy lives on in the memories of those who flew with the airline during its existence.
