Meridiana

  • Meridiana, also known as Air Italy, was an Italian airline that operated from 1963 to 2018. It was initially established as a regional airline, but gradually expanded its route network to include international destinations as well. Meridiana had its main hub at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Rome and operated a fleet of Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
  • In 2018, Meridiana rebranded as Air Italy under new ownership by Qatar Airways. The airline aimed to position itself as a major player in the Italian aviation market by offering long-haul flights and expanding its fleet. However, due to financial difficulties, Air Italy ceased operations in February 2020.
  • It is worth mentioning that while Air Italy was the rebranded version of Meridiana, the two airlines had different ownership structures and operational strategies. Meridiana had a long history in the Italian aviation industry, while Air Italy was a short-lived venture.
