Meridiana, also known as Air Italy, was an Italian airline that operated from 1963 to 2018. It was initially established as a regional airline, but gradually expanded its route network to include international destinations as well. Meridiana had its main hub at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Rome and operated a fleet of Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
In 2018, Meridiana rebranded as Air Italy under new ownership by Qatar Airways. The airline aimed to position itself as a major player in the Italian aviation market by offering long-haul flights and expanding its fleet. However, due to financial difficulties, Air Italy ceased operations in February 2020.
It is worth mentioning that while Air Italy was the rebranded version of Meridiana, the two airlines had different ownership structures and operational strategies. Meridiana had a long history in the Italian aviation industry, while Air Italy was a short-lived venture.
