LTU International, also known simply as LTU, was a German leisure airline that operated from 1955 to 2011. It was originally founded as Lufttransport-Union and was initially focused on charter flights. Over the years, LTU expanded its operations and offered both charter and scheduled flights to various destinations in Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America. The airline was known for its comfortable service and affordable prices.
In 2007, LTU was acquired by Air Berlin, another German airline. However, due to financial difficulties, Air Berlin announced the closure of LTU in 2008. The airline ceased operations in 2009 but was temporarily revived in 2011 for the summer season before finally shutting down. The brand name LTU is no longer in use, and its former routes and operations have been absorbed by other airlines.
