Excel Airways

  • Excel Airways was a British charter airline that operated from 1996 to 2008. It was a subsidiary of the travel firm Excel Group and primarily focused on providing holiday flights to popular tourist destinations in Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean.
  • Excel Airways had a fleet of Boeing and Airbus aircraft, including the Boeing 737 and Airbus A330. The airline offered both scheduled and charter flights, with a focus on all-inclusive vacation packages.
  • In 2006, Excel Airways acquired the airline Air Atlanta Europe, which expanded its operations and route network. However, due to various financial difficulties and the global economic recession, Excel Airways ceased operations and entered administration in 2008.
  • Following the collapse of Excel Airways, some of its assets were acquired by other airlines, and its operations were taken over by XL Airways UK (formerly known as Star Airlines). However, XL Airways UK also ceased operations in 2008.
