Continental Airlines was an American airline that operated from 1934 to 2012. It was originally known as Varney Speed Lines and was later renamed Continental Airlines in 1937. Throughout its existence, Continental Airlines grew to become one of the major domestic airlines in the United States.
Continental Airlines served various domestic and international destinations. It had its main hubs at Newark Liberty International Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. The airline offered flights to several destinations in North America, Central America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.
Continental Airlines became a member of the Star Alliance, a global airline alliance, in 2009. This allowed passengers to benefit from seamless travel options and codeshare agreements with other member airlines. The airline was known for its quality services and amenities, including comfortable seating, in-flight entertainment, and in-flight dining options.
In 2010, Continental Airlines merged with United Airlines, forming a new entity known as United Continental Holdings. Following the merger, the Continental Airlines brand was gradually phased out and all flights operated under the United Airlines name.
