It serves as the main gateway to the province of Papua and is one of the busiest airports in the eastern part of Indonesia. The airport has both domestic and international flights, connecting Papua with major cities in Indonesia, as well as other countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. It is operated by PT Angkasa Pura I, a state-owned airport company in Indonesia.
