Zambezi Airlines (ZMA)

  • Zambezi Airlines (ZMA) was a Zambian airline that operated from 2008 to 2012. The airline was based in Lusaka, Zambia, and provided both domestic and international flights.
  • Zambezi Airlines was founded by Maurice Jangulo and was initially backed by the Mulyata Investments Group, a Zambian investment company. The airline aimed to improve air travel in Zambia and connect the country to other African destinations.
  • The airline started operations in July 2008 with a fleet that included Boeing 737 aircraft. It offered flights to destinations such as Johannesburg, Lusaka, Ndola, Livingstone, Harare, and Dar es Salaam.
  • However, Zambezi Airlines faced financial difficulties and operational challenges throughout its existence. The airline struggled to compete with other established airlines in the region, and there were reports of unpaid debts and disputes with suppliers.
  • In October 2012, the Zambia Revenue Authority seized one of the airline's aircraft due to unpaid taxes. Soon after, Zambezi Airlines suspended its operations and eventually ceased operations permanently.
  • Despite its short-lived existence, Zambezi Airlines made some contributions to Zambian aviation by providing improved air travel options and connecting the country to other parts of Africa.
