The airline was founded in 2002 and commenced operations in 2004. Islas Airways primarily operated a fleet of ATR 72 turboprop aircraft. However, the airline faced financial difficulties and suspended operations in 2012. It subsequently declared bankruptcy and its air operator's certificate was revoked in 2013.
